Week 7: Urban and Public Space

Posted on April 16, 2014

Urban space is nearly everywhere around us and it is a fascinating subject. The city is where every aspect of one’s life is transformed and the hidden laneways that occupy it, define it. These are the urban spaces that we occupy everyday but there are also other spaces.

Private spaces are your own home; the place where you reside privately with people who are a part of your private life. Public spaces, is harder to define. A shopping mall is not a public space, as a person owns it, which makes it called a semi-public space.

Public and private is now on the decline and it is called Identity Spaces. The Internet may be a modern wonder, but it is taking away our private realms as we can post whatever we want on the Internet, which anyone can see.
